The key to successful business is through the Philippines

Business process outsourcing has grown exponentially in the last five years in the Philippines, with companies like Prudential Corporation, Thomson Reuters, and even Sara Lee Corporation outsourcing to the country. Analysts predict that BPO will continue to grow in the Philippines – which is good news for American corporations who want to focus on core operations and save costs, as well as the local Filipino economy.

There are many reasons why outsourcing continues to grow in places like Davao City, Philippines, and even more reasons why business can benefit business can benefit from developing these offshoring relationships.

  • Employers can offer more competitive wages in the Filipino market. The cost of recruiting, hiring and training a Filipino call center agent or virtual assistant is significantly less than the resources needed to accomplish the task domestically. A company that engages in a business process outsourcing relationship in the Philippines can also offer more competitive wages than other local industries. This makes it easy to attract and retain top talent – while still saving on HR costs. It also fortifies the Filipino economy and creates more and more new jobs in urban centers like Davao City.
  • Opportunities for Filipino employees to get on a promising career track abound. Companies developing business process outsourcing relationships in the Philippines are an attractive solution for new college graduates and individuals looking for a career change. In addition, the BPO industry pays more than other sectors. For example, a nurse who becomes a BPO transcriptionist will make up to P22,500 a month in contrast to only P10,000 in a hospital job. Potential candidates for hire with business process outsourcing companies enjoy the opportunity to get on-the-job training, personal and professional development, and a chance to move up the corporate ladder in a burgeoning industry. This results in satisfied, long-term employees who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty.
  • Demand for business process outsourcing will continue to grow, thus providing stability and promise for Filipinos. The demand for qualified business process outsourcing firms is growing and will continue to do so in the near future. Investing in this industry in terms of finances, resources and employee development provides an exciting and lucrative return. Foreign investors can rest assured that they will receive quality service at an affordable rate, while domestic companies in the Philippines can enjoy job security and potential for growth. Call center agents and virtual assistants will have the opportunity to explore a variety of career paths in different industries. Overall, it is a win-win situation for foreign and domestic companies.

The Philippines is a gem in the business process outsourcing industry. This is a unique place where cross-cultural relationships can grow and prosper, and with blossoming urban centers like Davao City on the map, it promises a bright future for both Filipino and foreign business professionals.

  8. James

    If a company is considering new BPO projects, it must begin to develop a BPO strategy and make decisions soon. Companies must consider if BPO offers an opportunity for them to improve services without capital investment, offload noncore services or reduce operational costs.

    Even India, which has been touted as the leader of outsourcing destinations, has recognized the Philippines as a frontier for investments and profits.

    As an example– Infosys BPO, ranked among the leading BPO companies in India by NASSCOM and the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals, together with worldwide leader in networking CISCO has recently opened its first BPO branch in the
    Philippines last July 2009 to cater to multiple clients in the technology industry.

    Outsourcing to Philippines and Poland seems to be growing at a faster rate than expected. Just yesterday I came across a report by Global Services- Tholons, on Top 50 Emerging Global Outsourcing Cities, that has a city in Philippines topping the list. Cheers!

    @Anne

    Do you have a need to fill or are you looking for projects? We are a provider of non-voice BPO labor as well, so there may be a conflict in interest here.

  22. Joseph Magnotti

    @Philam

    I think the easier to understand accent here in the Philippines makes Americans more comfortable doing business here over India. Also, culture the Philippines and America are much closer. These advatages apply not only to traditional voice campaigns like outbound telemarketing or inbound customer support but also to technical projects. One of our newly acquire properties, TwitArt.com uses local labor in Davao. I have found it very easy to communicate and work with the staff. Right from the beginning it was a success.

  23. Ashwin

    Joseph: I haven’t come across any, but assume their 40 million population, a strong education system and proximity to Western Europe may be working to their advantage.

  24. Clarisse

    thank you for the information. it really helps my research paper in economincs :)

    The Philippines has been one of the major Asian hot spots as far as Business Process Outsourcing is concerned. Presently BPO jobs here are not concentrated in Manila alone but other provinces have also become important players. Without much fun fare, global marketing and globe trotting, the Philippines became a natural choice and a preferred destination by Global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies today. This phenomenon came about just through word of mouth from existing BPO players in the country. After setting their back offices in country BPO global players learned from their back office experiences how world class the Filipinos were when it comes to the voice services. BPO companies realized how Filipinos were excellent in their command of fluent English with a neutral accent. -Jaime-

  28. Justin Cooke

    @Outsourcing Tech Support

    Yes, we love to see BPO branching into other areas in the Philippines. It’s cutting down costs and making it convenient for more Filipinos to stay close to their families.

    Filipino accents are considerably better than their Indian counterparts when it comes to English in the US.
